CHOCWalk13_0034

The CHOC walk was created in 1990 to allow friends and family to come together at the Disneyland® Resort for the children in our community. To raise awareness as well as donations to help CHOC Children’s mission to nurture, advance and protect the health and well being of children. Last year was the first year Scion Evolution & DaYUUM participated in the CHOC Walk and we were able to raise $1,525 that went towards CHOC Children’s new patient tower. This year we were able to surpass that and raised a total of $2,020!

SEMA 2012 – FR-Steria

“There is no doubt that the Scion FR-S is going to be the dominant and prominent cars [sic] at SEMA this year, and I’ll go out on a limb and say the same will happen again at the 2013 SEMA Show.”

– Neil Tjin
President at Tjin Edition
(Sept. 25, 2012)

Neil could not have been more right in his prediction. The SEMA show is always a really, really, really big show. To put things into context, the SEMA show brings all parts of the auto industry, domestic and international; buyers and exhibitors; styling and performance to tools and accessories, anything you can think of it’s probably there; and then some! Now spread that out through the entire Las Vegas Convention Center, which consists of 3 halls, with one having a second floor, and then the entire outside parking lot. Yup, it’s big.

There’s no surprise on why the Scion FR-S was awarded the hottest sports compact vehicle this year. With a show that big you’d be sure to see all sorts of vehicles, well this year you still could have, but there was not a single area of the convention center that you couldn’t take a few steps and spot a Scion FR-S (or Subaru BRZ). It was almost maddening, maybe even giving some a sense of hysteria!

But all is good, let’s take a look at some of the different FR-S builds at the show. And a few other stand outs.

The Tjin Edition Roadshow Trailer Uncovered

In the last 5-years Tjin Edition toured the nation in their 40ft double-decker trailer and every year it seems like a new skin is attached to it. Over the weekend I had the chance to take some exclusive behind-the-scene shots of the Tjin Edition tailer getting re-skined.

It’s a busy time for them because the tour kicks off in Charlotte, North Carolina at the Charlotte Spring AutoFair on the weekend of April 8th. So, you can imagine the prep work involved in getting the cars and displays together, along with the trek across the country. The trailer was one of the last major projects on the to-do list.

Peeking at the photos gives me the assumption that Falken, Forgestar, iForged, Magnaflow, Webasto, Braille Battery, Escort, Glow Shift, Royal Purple, Universal Technical Institute (UTI), Baer Brakes, AirLift, Vortech, Lysholm, Paxton, and Gurnade are all on-board for the 2011 Tjin Edition Roadshow.

It should be a very exciting year as their 2011 Ford Mustang and 2011 Ford Fiesta  travel to over 25 events! In addition, the Ford Fiesta will be given away to a lucky soul, which anyone can enter to win at UTI’s web site at www.utigarage.com. For tour dates and about The Tjin Edition Roadshow visit their web site at www.tjineditionroadshow.com or facebook.

In the meantime, check out these exclusive shots as they work through the day, to the night, and into the morning. It took a 10ft. scaffolding, 3 dudes, 20 hrs., FJ Cruiser, a loud stereo that apparently loved Wiz Khalifa’s Black and Yellow, and harassments that motivated the completion of this 40ft. x 14ft. masterpiece.

Gymkhana, a term used in the United Kingdom, a sport that consists of horses or ponies racing against time through a series of pylons and obstacles, also known as equestrian in the States.

Gymkhana, a motor sport event in Japan, that utilizes a small course – sometimes a karting track, to race against time and test handling over sheer speed. Often times drifting to tackle hairpins and corners on a narrow course.

Gymkhana Grid, a term used in the latest motor sport event to hit the States, an event spearheaded by Ken Block, the co-founder of the famous company DC Shoes.

Anyway you slice it, it’s about technical skill and execution. Its talent whether you are steering a jackass or a wheel. The ability to maneuver “horsepower” through a series of corners, barrels, and tight hairpins can be dubbed as talent.

We have always been a big fan of The Tjin Brother’s creations, from their stable of once red to bright blue tC, dual-tone brown xB’s, Ralph Lauren xB, dual-tone 240, grey Volvo, and a list of others. I can’t type out their impressive resume but a simple Google search will easily give you a synopsis of what they do. You will find that these guys push the envelope in terms of design, trends, and style. They were one of, if not the first to dismantle a set of HRE’s to color-match the lips. Who does that to those? They DO! With massive low offsets on their cars, especially the ER34 Skyline, chocolate brown xB’s, and blue tC, they were wide and slammed before Hella and Flush were a term. Among the aggressive stance they have incorporated amazing technology and techniques into their builds such as air-jacks, full custom roll cages, raised shock towers,  gold and silver leafing, and many other unique touches that blend form, function, and styling from different eras. Styling, that no one dared to even try on modern day import vehicles.
