After a little over 2 months, the 6 race series called the FR-S RC Challenge has come to this: the Finale! Viper RC and Scion pulled of yet another FR-S related venue and despite having the cars at 1/10th scale it was big!
While the main display had an assortment of FR-S RC cars…
FRS86 was there in support with an FRS86 Showcase so racers and spectators alike could get an up close look at some large scale builds.
In addition to the cars, vendors were also spread out. Such as DaYUUM, MV Designz, OEM Audio+, Ohana Soul, P1 Brand, and Beat Sonic. In fact, BeatSonic even did a live install of one of their roof spoilers on the 86fest FR-S.
The Scion Film Crew came out to videotape the whole thing and even get a few interviews. Here are some behind the scenes interview shots of Denny Huang from DaYUUM and Paul Dabao, Lead Organizer of the FR-S RC Challenge.
They also had a HeliCam setup to cover the action, can’t wait for them to realease that video.
The racers were all part of a big raffle that included drawing a collection of tickets that were given out as early as the first race. Viper RC, Scion, and all of the sponsors donated a lot of goodies throughout the series. There were even some raffles for the spectaros and vendors who attended the finale. Here is Denny from DaYUUM whining about wanting the backpack and ending up winning it (my guess is it was rigged, lol jk). MV Designz had some winners as well with Merry and her son Mikey coming away with both a backpack AND a HPI xB Switch RC car (Michelle actually won the RC xB, but thought it would better served with Mikey, how nice of her 🙂 ).
The only thing left on the day was the main events, but before that. We had a little fun doing a vendor race, with stock or near stock rc FR-Ss, for bragging rights. The contestants were Denny and Tyler for DaYUUM, Mikey for MV Designz, Daniel for OEM Audio+, Jay for P1 Brand, Danny for JDMZipTies, Young for FRS86, Noel standing in for SoCalFRS, and me of course for Scion Evolution. I’ve been to all the races this series and never saw as much wipe outs, popped dogbones, flips, jumps, cutting of the track, or intentional crashes in all the races combined than as I did in this race alone!
But in the end it was fun!
While our race appeared to have lightened the already mellow mood, once the real racers “got on their marks” you know it was about to get real. The final race of the series for each class and the winners would take home a trophy, Viper RC gift certificate, and a pair of tickets to next weekend’s 86fest2.
